North Table Mountain Cleanup

The Denver Climbers Coalition, Access Fund, and Fixed Pin Publishing will be hosting the 2nd Annual North Table Mountain Trail Day at the Golden Cliffs on Saturday Nov. 14th at 9am. We had a tremendous turn out last year and did a phenomenal job rerouting several social trails and making the TR access gully less of a shooting gallery. This year we will reduce a few more social trails and fix a few retaining walls. Come help out for a few hours and then spend the rest of the day climbing a couple of pitches with friends including the guidebook authors. Be sure to bring some water and your climbing gear, the rest of the tools will be provided at the event courtesy of the Access Fund. The Access Fund just announced its next round of grant recipients. The DCC has received a start-up grant that we will use for start-up costs such as filing for our non-profit status.

Castlewood Canyon Competition and Clean-Up

Join us this Saturday, July 18 for some great bouldering and a great cause.
The canyon needs your help this year. All the rain has washed out trails and left them in need of maintenance. So you don't have to compete to be part of the event.

The event is being organized by The Rock in Monument. The Access Fund and Mountain Chalet are helping sponsor the event so we will have giveaways and prizes for both competitors and cleaner-uppers.

Take a right on Castlewood Canyon Road. Go through the Ranger's Station and follow the road as it changes to dirt and goes past the small homestead house. Look for a large parking lot called the "Horse Trailer lot". The registration table will be there.

You DO NOT have to pay the car usage fee. Castlewood is waiving the fee in exchange for the clean-up services

Colorado Mountainfest 2009

This weekend, the Colorado Mountain Club is having its annual Mountainfest. They have cools stuff planned, including a Bluegrass concert and a pancake breakfest, plus plenty of vendors. They've also been awesome enough to let us have a table, asking only that we help spread the word.
So if you don't have plans Saturday or Sunday, come check it out. Be sure to stop by our table and say hi!

Denver Mountain Parks Update!

We recently met with Denver Mountain Parks to begin dialouge with them about climbing in DMP properties. While we have lots of work to do before parks are open to us, they were really positive and look forward to working with responsible members of the climbing community!

Clear Creek Canyon

It is official! The sign is up. We have adopted a 3 mile stretch heading into Clear Creek Canyon.

We are already planning a clean-up for June 13th that will include the roadside and some other areas.

April Board Meeting

We will be holding the April Board meeting for the Denver Climbers Coalition on Wednesday, April 22nd at 7:00.

It will be at a future climbing gym being started by our own Thomas Betterton and some friends.

The address is: 2485 W 2nd Ave, #18, Denver, 80223. This is in a warehouse complex and there is plenty of parking at the location.

Denver Mountain Parks

During the last month, a few of us have been compiling information about the climbing potential in the various Denver Mountain Parks. We still have more to do! Let us know if you would like to help out. Also, we would love information on what you want to see open and any historical information about climbing in the various parks.

We are also going to begin talking directly with the parks and we are hopeful about some of the things we are hearing from them! Let us know your thoughts!

Annual Meeting

The Denver Climbers' Coalition will be holding its first annual election and annual membership meeting on Wednesday March 18th, 2009 at 7:00 PM at First Unitarian Society of Denver, 1400 Lafayette in Denver. At this meeting, we will be electing 5 board members plus offices of President, Vice-President, Secretery, and Treasurer. In addition, we will be setting priorities for action for the upcoming year and forming action committees for these priorities.

If you would like to run for office or nominate another member, you must submit your nomination via email to denverclimbers@yahoo.com by Friday, March 13th 2009. The only requirement for running is that a candidate has filled out a membership form , is over the age of 18, and is on our membership roster.

All candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves at the meeting, and all voting will take place at the meeting. Members must be present to cast their vote.

We are also in the process of updating our membership list. Please report any changes to your contact information. If you no longer want to be a member, please let me know and I will remove your name. Otherwise, I will assume you still want to be on the list and no action is required.
